3. **Exiles, Managers, and Firefighters:** IFS identifies three main categories of parts: Exiles, Managers, and Firefighters. Exiles are wounded and vulnerable parts that carry the emotional pain and trauma from the past. Managers are protective parts that attempt to shield the Exiles from further harm by controlling external circumstances. Firefighters, on the other hand, react impulsively to intense emotional distress in an attempt to distract from or numb the pain.


4. **Systemic Harmony:** The aim of IFS therapy is to facilitate harmony and cooperation among these inner parts. The therapist helps individuals develop Self-led, compassionate relationships with their internal parts, enabling the resolution of conflicts and the healing of emotional wounds.

3. **Dialogue and Exploration:** Clients engage in inner dialogue with their various parts, fostering understanding and communication. By addressing the concerns and needs of these parts, clients work toward resolving internal conflicts.


4. **Integration:** The ultimate goal of IFS therapy is to facilitate the integration of parts into a cohesive and harmonious internal system. This involves transforming protective Managers and Firefighters into healthy, constructive roles while providing healing and care to Exiles.
